To do different kinds of fishing, do you need different kinds of rods? Like if i throw a line out with a worm and let it sit, do I need a rod for that, and when I throw a line with a fake minnow, do I need a special rod to slwoly retrieve it or make it look real? I am good at fishing, I just want to clear this up because I am slightly confused.
Right now I have a Browning open reel, and would like to use some fake minnows, and I never used lures before, so I don’t know how to use them.

I recently received a Fenwick Spinning and Fly Combo as a gift. Specs- 7’0", 1/8-5/8 lures, 6-12lb, and it is carbon veil (I guess that would mean graphite). The spinning reel is an Abu Garcia Cardinal–8lbs/80yds. I don’t know how to fly fish so the fly reel isn’t of much importance to me. Anyway, my question is what kind of fish would this rod & reel combo be capable of handling? Also, can I do some saltwater striper fishing with it or will it fail? Lastly, should I get 8lb mono or 8lb braid? Thanks

We are both avid fishermen, but really only farmiliar with spinning rods, fishing for bass and pike. We just got a little place on a trout stream and I want to learn how to fly fish with my man. Any suggestions for two people just starting out? I don’t want to invest a fortune because we still want to fish the lakes a lot too.
