I just bought a bamboo fly rod. I don’t want to put silk line on it for several reasons.I found a modern fly line with the same quality’s as silk with out the hassle,but it’s not for sale anywhere. I even looked at the Cortland company store, no dice. can someone tell me where to look for it because I’m at a loss.

I bought this new fly line a few days ago to replace some cheeper line I got with the pole. The new line is White River Fly Shop™ CV2® Fly Line from Bass Pro http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_25195_175003001_175000000_175003000_175-3-1. It’s 2x as light as my other line and half the diamiter and its tappered. I made sure its the same weight as my other line and my pole wich is 5wt. I’m having a much harder time casting the new line compared to the old line. I am thinking I need to break it in. What do you think the problem is?

Chadd: I’ve just bought a nice 4/5# weight fly rod and reel combo, but fly line wasn’t included in the deal. My old rod is a 3# weight and I have several lines at that particular weight which were pretty pricey, so I don’t want to waste money buying 4/5# line if I can use my 3# weight line, and from what you say I should be okay, thanks!

I am a beginner at fly fishing and need a good fly line that can be used for bass and bluegill and handle flies that are small enough for bluegills mouths but large enough for bass to take it. I will be using a 5 wt. fly rod and a X4 leader. Also I need a floating line. Any recommendations and advice would be appreciated, thanks.

I heard it before but forgot… What can I attach to my floating fly line to make my flies sink?

What’s the thing that adds more weight. Say if I want to drop a fly down 8 ft?

Also, what is the technique called where you have a dry fly then tied onto that a trailing wet fly?

and what resultant difficulties would arise if the wrong weight fly line (either too heavy or too light) was matched with the wrong weight fly rod?

Thinking about buying this fly line today so I bought it and about a dozen flys from Bass Pro Shops. Has anybody used this line before?

okay im getting a fley reel this monday and ive been using a fly on my spinning reel and had alot of success…but now im switching my reels wut lb. line and backing should i get….im kind of a beginner 2 usiong a fly reel and rod combo..
ive been using spinning reel on spinning rod only that i tie on a flie and use the combo as fly fishing tackle…o bought a cabelas presige reel, sunset amnesia shooting line (15 LB. test), Cabelas Prestige white fly line ( size # 20)…is that trouble in the making???

i’m getting my first fly rod for christmas and i am having trouble understanding all the types of line you use. i usually fish using a spin rod so i only use on type of line. i just need help understanding the lines used. so its backing – fly line – leader – tippet right? also, what is the difference between leader and tippet, and what is the material the backing and fly line made out of. thanks for any answers
